City Clerk

The Clerk’s Office serves as the gateway to open and accessible government.  The office provides quality services to the Mayor, Common Council, staff, and the public in an efficient and responsive manner to create the highest standards of ethics and integrity.  We serve the citizens of Ashland through a variety of services, and we provide a dependable resource for information and services provided by the City of Ashland.

Responsibilities of the Clerk

The Mayor, with the Common Council approval appoints the City Clerk.  The Clerk administers the office and is responsible for:

  • Council Agendas
  • Serve as Secretary to City Council
  • Attend Meetings of Council and Keep Full Record of its Proceedings
  • Assume Care and Custody of Corporate Seal and all Papers and Records of the City
  • Supervise Maintenance of Ordinance Book
  • Serve as the Legal Custodian for the Records of the City
  • Coordinate Legal Publications
  • Supervise Issuance and Recording of Licenses and Permits
  • Administer Oaths and Affirmations
  • Supervise Election Activities
  • Conduct Board of Review
  • Conduct Board of Canvass
  • Serve as Personnel Director
  • Liaison to Public
  • Purchase all City Insurance
