The City of Ashland Public Works Department requires either a Right-of-Way Permit or an Obstruction of the Right-of-Way Permit depending on the kind of work being done. These permits are separate from a Building Permit, which is processed by the Planning and Development Department.

When work is being done within the Right-of-Way.

Examples:

  • Putting in new sidewalks or curb not located on private property
  • Electrical upgrades within the Right-of-Way
  • Fixing water or gas lines within the Right-of-Way

When work will require the Right-of-Way to be blocked.

Examples:

  • A dumpster will be placed on the street or alley
  • Scaffolding will be placed on a sidewalk
  • Part of or the whole street will be blocked due to maintenance

Please contact Public Works if you need any assistance with either type of RoW Permits or if you have any questions.
