Parks & Recreation Committee

Pearson Plaza (2)The Parks and Recreation Committee was created to advise the City of Ashland’s Parks and Recreation Department to provide and improve the recreational resources of the City. Their support of the Department provides an enhanced quality of life and a larger sense of community. Offering quality programming and services is accomplished through preserving, maintaining, and improving:

  • Building collaborations with regional partners
  • Campgrounds
  • Facilities
  • Open spaces within the City of Ashland
  • Park lands
  • Parkways
  • Services
  • Trails

Members of the Committee report directly to the Parks and Recreation Department Director to recommend programs, activities, games, contests, and festivals for the residents and visitors alike. With each of these, the Committee will help regulate the activities by developing guidelines and rules for the use of facilities and those who use them.

Member Details

The Committee is composed of seven members appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by Council, serving one- to three-year terms beginning on May 1. Six members are citizens of the City, and one member is appointed from the Common Council. Meetings are open to the public, and the Committee invites community involvement and input at all meetings. The accomplishments of the Committee are evident throughout the City with the quality upgrades in the parks, clean up at the beaches and improvements of the waterfront.
